The Full Story

About

Kara Skaptason began her dance endeavors at the age of 3, in her hometown suburb just outside of Houston, Texas. During her years at Boni’s Dance and Performing Arts Studio, Kara fell in love with dancing and performing in multiple styles while competing in a competitive dance team known as Boni’s En Toure, where she received a portion of her pre-professional training. She continued her training across the country to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she enrolled as a student at Point Park University. She has been further exposed to a multitude of cultural aspects in dance that enriched her artistry and passion for versatility. Kara has performed in numerous Concert works by incredible choreographers within her time at Point Park, including: Exodus by Rennie Harris, Partner by Jae Man Joo, Just Dope! By Latasha Barnes, Core Affect by Marc Spaulding, Rhapsody by Rocker Verastique, and Paquita by Marius Petipa under the rehearsal direction of Susan Stowe. Alongside performing, Kara has grown a deep interest in choreography. She recently debuted her choreographic work Unspoken Unity in Point Park’s Student Choreography Showcase in the Fall of 2022. Working cohesively with Riley Goudy in a student-run organization, Kara was also the Co-President of IMPULSE, the university’s Hip Hop Dance Club, where opportunities are made to take classes, teach, choreograph, and perform in on-campus events. Now that Kara graduated in the Spring of 2023, she is elated to continue her passions with many amazing artists throughout her lifetime and is excited to become booked and blessed as they say!

Mission

I do whatever it takes to make an impact on the people I perform for and dance with, in all venues and facets. I strive to make a statement in my movement to communicate someone’s story in a way that words cannot entirely describe. I am committed to making every performance or choreographic work I do heartfelt and soulful. I aim to stay humble within my versatility, find meaning in selfless actions, and spread the joy of dance. I am here to serve my community through my passions.

Vision

I will achieve what it means to be an architect within the dance community. I aspire to make movement and connections through my own being and through others that create a choreographic performance structure, leaving a mark on any story needing to be told. I will be tenacious and advocate for myself, going after what I strive for day by day. I will do what I can to continue to make the younger me proud of the woman I am today and will continue to become.
